History

CSI-Piemonte was founded in 1977 by the Regione Piemonte (Piedmont Region administration), the University of Turin and the Polytechnic of Turin. It was initially named "Consorzio Piemontese per il trattamento automatico dell'informazione", "Piedmont Consortium for Automatic Information Management"). It is a state-controlled yet independent body, designed to design, project, implement and run a regional data processing and management system.

Since its foundation, it has maintained constant growth in its field (ICT and communications). During the 1980's it devoted itself to the development of IT for public administration in Piedmont and to the setting up of a regional information system, whereas, in the 90's, it concentrated more on planning and managing shared networks.

The goal of the consortium remains that of increasing its work on innovating local public body activities and services, creating a technological and management centre that can help public administrations to develop and guarantee simpler forms of communication for users (citizens and businesses).
