CSI experiments innovative multimedia technologies and carries out ongoing research and monitoring activities on experiences of the sector.

The on-line Centre History and Culture of Industry uses multimedia tools to promote the knowledge of the history and industrial and work heritage of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d’Aosta.
The main objectives are:
- to spread, via Internet, knowledge of the territory’s industrial history and culture;
- to offer training experiences dedicated to the history of businesses, technology and work;
- to create a collaboration network among archives, documentation centres, corporate museums, associations;
- to use multimedia technologies to support the development of on-line teaching.
The web portal is developed by CSI-Piemonte and experiments innovative methods for the creation of the contents based on web 2.0 solutions, working like a virtual laboratory for applications to be proposed to the members of the consortium.

Original texts written by scholars integrated with documents and pictures provided by archives and companies or found on the web

The Laboratory, created by CSI-Piemonte, can develop:
- museum installations
- multi-projections;
- three-dimensional settings;
- web applications
- multimedia sites with virtual guided visits;
- virtual reproductions.
It proposes new forms of communication based on the use of the most advanced technologies:
- static and animated three-dimensional computerised graphics;
- high definition video (HD);
- 5.1 immersive and positional audio;
- synchronised multi-projections;
- LED environment lighting.
The activities of the MediaLab can be applied in various fields and aim at:
- improving the cultural, tourist and environmental promotion of Piedmont through the design of stands and exhibits for shows, conferences and events and the development of audiovisual contents of a popular nature (documentaries, promotional videos, three-dimensional reconstructions and representations);
- offering Public Administration employees and citizens innovative tools for work and interaction:
- web conference platforms for remote meetings and documentation exchange;
- DAMS infrastructure to catalogue and search for videos;
- streaming services via web for conferences, council meetings and events;
- podcasting services for the periodical Wi-Pie bulletins of the Regional Administration of Piedmont.
