The EvoRoads project supports the European Vision Zero goal of eliminating road fatalities by 2050. It focuses on developing innovative models, tools, and services to enhance road safety assessment, infrastructure monitoring, and risk management.

Main goals

Safety promotion: developing advanced solutions to improve safety on urban and rural roads.
Dynamic monitoring: utilizing advanced AI-driven analytics and on-the-edge sensory technologies to monitor cyber-physical infrastructures in real-time.
Proactive alerts: implementing systems to provide early warnings for safety risks in complex environments.
User-centred methodologies: studying complex user behaviours to minimize safety risks.
Use of KPIs: applying key performance indicators to understand and monitor road safety performance and evaluate progress towards the European Commission targets.

The project

The project will leverage advanced AI-driven analytics to merge infrastructure monitoring data from various geospatial resolutions. This integration will support proactive risk warning services and assist road operators in managing maintenance. EvoRoads defines safety criteria and quantification methodologies for KPIs, covering the entire "Safe System" approach. It develops a connectivity platform where transportation infrastructure assets are digitalized, and safety assessment services operate in an integrated manner.
EvoRoads is led by ERTICO (BE), and is active in 7 pilot sites in Spain, Italy, Latvia and Romania, characterized by different types of road users in both urban and rural environments. The Italian pilot site, located in Piedmont, analyzes a selected sample of the regional road network, including urban (Turin), rural, and mountain road sections.

CSI is involved in the project as a technology partner for the Piedmont Region, and is responsible for:

• providing specifications on data flow and IT systems related to roads and infrastructure
• providing geographic data on roads and infrastructure across the entire regional territory, covering both rural and urban areas (road graph, road accidents, complete road network mapping)
• promoting the adoption of EvoRoad solutions by its consortium members.
