Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia will be able to use the Environmental Knowledge System, the IT platform that we created in 2015 for the Piedmont Region, for the control and prevention of environmental pollution. It is the result of a collaboration agreement between the CSI and the United Nations Environment Programme for an 18-months working period.

Our software solution, in fact, integrates standard functions of a Geoportal with geo-alphanumeric search tools; in this way it is possible to know, for example, the location of the companies that present a release of polluting material above a certain threshold. In addition, the system offers different levels of access to information for public administrations, businesses and citizens.

We will offer to technicians from the Ministries of the Environment and Environmental Protection Agencies training, technical assistance and methodological support both for the use and customization of the software, and for data processing and environmental impact analyzes.

For training we will use our e-learning platform Smart3L (Smart Life Long Learning), following a blended learning approach.

The goal is to establish a cohesive team of technicians with GIS dataset management skills and open source tools, to improve environmental planning, data exchange between the authorities of the Balkan area, communication to the public.
